As the energy transition becomes increasingly important, utility companies are facing new challenges—from the growing penetration of distributed renewable energy to the rise of electric vehicles and smart chargers, all amid volatile energy prices. In the Caribbean, we also deal with relatively high levels of non-revenue electricity and non-revenue water. These factors often lead to higher utility expenses for our inhabitants. Utilities therefore play a crucial role in our economies. To gain better control over electricity and water grids, utility companies are now turning to Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI).

But the Caribbean context is unique. Production of potable water is energy intensive, while production of electricity is highly dependent on imported fuel. Utilities serve a smaller number of clients making the business case of large investments difficult. Thus, the deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure becomes costly and complex. Add to that the challenge of transforming operations with the same limited workforce in small utility companies, and deployment becomes nearly impossible.

That’s why we’re launching CarAA.With CarAA, we enable economies of scale, making AMI deployment more cost-effective across the region rather than per island.Key components such a central mission control, standardized materials, a central dispatch hub, and a shared cloud server for big data can now be aggregated. This eliminates the need to reinvent the wheel for each island. CarAA not only speeds up deployment, but also removes the need for upfront capital investments. Utilities can now focus their finances on the energy transition, while still transforming their operations.CarAA is the solution for the Caribbean. We will become the face for smart infrastructures and collaboration.
